What is Chinese Herbal Medicine and What Can It Do for You?
Chinese Herbal Medicine provides powerful support to help restore balance and promote healing in the body. Carefully formulated classical herbal prescriptions are used to address specific symptoms, conditions, or imbalances. Herbal medicine can be used as a primary form of treatment or in conjunction with other Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) methods such as acupuncture. It offers a natural and effective alternative to conventional pharmaceuticals.
Chinese Herbal Medicine is the most comprehensive and well-established herbal system in the world. In China, it is often regarded as an even more potent form of treatment than acupuncture. With thousands of years of clinical use, the effects and mechanisms of classical herbal formulas are well understood and trusted.
Herbs can help replenish the body and restore harmony, leading to reduced symptoms, improved energy levels, better digestion, restful sleep, regulated menstrual cycles, and relief from pain. They are particularly effective in treating chronic conditions, as well as acute issues such as the common cold or flu.
Chinese Herbal Medicine may help with:
-
Increasing energy
-
Improving digestion
-

-

How to Cook a Chinese Herbal Formula
Cupping

As part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapies, cupping is considered an effective treatment to increase blood flow and promote healing. It is commonly used to relieve various types of pain, reduce muscle tension, support recovery from injuries, and improve respiratory function. Often used in conjunction with acupuncture, the process involves creating a vacuum inside a glass cup and placing it on specific areas of the skin. This suction helps stimulate circulation, remove toxins, and promote the smooth flow of qi (pronounced “chee”) throughout the body.

At our Nanaimo clinic, cupping is provided when appropriate, based on each patient’s specific condition. It is sometimes used in combination with acupuncture, in which case there is no additional charge. If requested as a standalone treatment, cupping is billed at the same rate as an acupuncture session. For full details, please refer to our Service Rates page.
